It has been a long, strange trip for filing documents in Wayne County’s Family Division since the pandemic started. When the Clerk’s office closed, it began using an email filing system. When that system became overwhelmed, Wayne County’s Family Division returned to in-person and mail filings.
Now, as of today, Wayne County’s Family Division has gone live with an e-filing system it created. More information, including a training video, can be found here: https://www.3rdcc.org/divisions/family-domestic/emergency-and-non-emergency-filings. The e-filing system is available Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern. You can still choose to file by mail or file in person. Note, however, in-person filing is only open Monday and Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Note that Wayne County’s Family Division is not using the MiFILE system that is used in many counties across Michigan, including Macomb and Oakland. It will remain to be seen how well Wayne County’s newly created system functions. I attended a seminar Wayne County held to introduce attorneys to the new system, and I look forward to using it to interact with the Court more efficiently on behalf of my clients.
