I had previously described how Wayne County Circuit Court had went to an email-based form of e-Filing for domestic relations cases, due to the Court being physically closed to filing during the pandemic. Specifically, under the e-Filing system, filers were to email their filings to a particular Wayne County email address and, essentially, the Wayne County clerks would process them as they got to them.

As I wrote last time, that system became horribly backlogged, to the point where filings were sitting in the email box, unprocessed, for a month or more. Recognizing this was untenable and was putting families – and justice – at risk, and with pandemic-related restrictions easing, the Court’s leadership has since re-opened the Clerk’s office for in-person filings. At the same time, they have ended the email-based e-Filing system.

What this means for you and me is that, if we need to file a document in a domestic relations matter in Wayne County Circuit Court, we have two options. We can either file it in person at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, or we can mail it to the Clerk’s office at “Wayne County Clerk, Room 201, Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, Two Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48226.” Due to potential unreliability of the USPS and the mail system at the courthouse, I would recommend filing in person.
